Female pandas can only fall pregnant in the spring and give birth to live young within 95 and 160 days. In most cases a female panda gives birth to two young and must chose to abandon one of them, as she has to focus all her attention on one cub. This would not be any easier as bamboo forests are being destroyed makiing it harder for pandas to find food for them and their young.
When a panda is born the panda is completely pink and is covered with thin white fur. Pandas are born with their eyes closed. A baby panda weighs about 120-175 grams and are usually 15cm long. After a week the panda develops black patches and at the age of about 4 months they start to crawl.

Pandas don’t have many habits/ things to do during the day but here are some interesting facts about what the like to do. Pandas spend around two-thirds of their day feeding. The rest of their day is spent resting. Giant Pandas are very fast climbers but they mainly climb when they are in danger. Pandas have no special sleeping place so they lie down wherever they are.

I was on some other blogs when I thought: Hey, these people on my blog might not have any idea what pandas look like.
Discription: The Giant panda is sometimes called a “panda bear”. Although they look like bears they aren’t. The Giant Panda has black and white fur. Most males Giant pandas can weigh up to 115 kg! Females are normally smaller than males but can still weigh up to a massive a 100 kg!

Although 61% of pandas are in sanctuaries, the other 39% are in danger of being poached or having their natural habit destroyed! Pandas live in the South-West region of China in places such as Gansu, Shaanxi and Sichuan Provinces all the way toward the east Tibetan plateau.

There are very few Giant pandas left living in the wild, so WWF has made ‘Panda Reserves’ for the pandas. There are over 50 of them! Although these are great I would like to see more. Only about 61% (around 980 pandas) of the Giant pandas left in the world are in the safety of these sanctuaries. These sancturies cover over 10,400km squared.

Recently, I got a comment asking “What are we doing to help the pandas from becoming extinct?” This put off a light bulb in my head!
As you probably know pandas are the official logo of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). The reason is probably that pandas are the heart of conservation worldwide. WWF helps endangered species by getting people to sponsor them. I think this is a great cause that helps all endangered animals-large and small. Also they breed them in captivity, so they can release them into the wild or keep them in a zoo. When you go to the zoo you also have a chance to sponsor an animal (like you sponsor a child in countries ravaged by poverty) by giving money toward that animal. I hope I have answered your question Maddie.
If you want to ask a question just type it in as a comment and I will try to answer it!

This is my 1st proper post so I thought it should be about what pandas eat. Did you know pandas don’t only eat bamboo like a lot people think. They also occasionally eat mice, fish, irises and crocuses. Did you know Giant pandas eat around 12 kilograms of bamboo a day? Pandas eat approximately 12 hours a day so that is about 1 kilogram an hour! The reason pandas are becoming extinct is their homes are getting chopped down so they have nothing to eat.
